Lawson Bros Pty Ltd

A family name that is proud to be associated with the Plumbing Industry.

The Lawson name has a history of five direct generations in the building industry.

In 1851, James Jackson Lawson left Scotland with his wife and settled in Melbourne. Eleven children later, the family moved to Sydney in 1876.

One of the sons, Alfred Lawson, set up business in 1878 as a self-employed Plumber trading as A. Lawson. Alfred had three sons, all of whom became plumbers.

Two of the sons, Alfred Phillip and John Warwick, worked with their father until his death in 1917, when they set up a partnership called Lawson Bros. John Warwick received special dispensation to run the business, as his brother Alfred Phillip was in Europe fighting in World War I. On Alfred Phillip's return, he and John Warwick worked together until 1931, when they went separate ways, with Alfred Phillip carrying on trading as A. Lawson.

Alfred Phillip Lawson had two sons, Bruce Alfred and Colin Chapple, and both these men followed their father and became Plumbers.

Bruce Alfred and Colin Chapple worked with Alfred Phillip until his death in 1951 and they then set up a partnership, trading as Lawson Bros. until 1962, when a private company called Lawson Bros. Pty. Limited was created.

Bruce Alfred had two sons, John Bruce, born 1954, and Peter Stephen, born 1956. John Bruce went on to be a Civil Engineer and Peter Stephen to gain certification in all aspects of plumbing, draining and gasfitting. It was in 1985 that the two brothers purchased the business from Bruce Alfred and Colin Chapple and are still trading today as Lawson Bros. Pty. Limited.

Throughout this entire time, from 1878 to the present, all the Lawson Plumbing businesses have been based in Alexandria in Sydney.

We believe we have a well-earned reputation as one of the best plumbing companies in Sydney.
